Few people realize that a speech given on a small Missouri campus is considered by many to have been the start of the Cold War. How fitting it is, then, that 20 years after the Iron Curtain fell, a section of the wall that represented it stands in the same place the war began.
Highway 36, which connects the state’s western border to its eastern border, is dotted with towns called home by a number of Missourians who changed the world.
When planning a quick day-trip to the state capital, most people would probably envision touring the sacred halls in which laws are passed. In Jefferson City, though, visitors can also tour the halls of another building that once served as a less pleasant home to men who had no regard for the law.
