WOW Announcement

Mark this one up in the "didn't see it coming"
category. One week after the Winter 2007
issue—featuring Springfield's amazing Wonders of
Wildlife museum—hit the mail, the museum board of
directors announced a massive renovation project that
will keep the museum closed until mid-summer.
We have toyed with the idea of doing a major feature on Wonders of Wildlife the past two years, but we have been leery to commit to the feature since rumors of the renovation have been floating around for about the same amount of time. With no construction taking place in two years, we figured we were safe to place the story on the editorial calendar. And an indoor attraction that promotes the outdoors seemed to be a perfect fit for the winter issue, since anyone with even a limited knowledge of Missouri weather understands how unpredictable the cold months can be.
Writer Gary Ellison did an excellent job providing readers with a tour of the facility, and his article included some very impressive photography. Too bad everything except the major aquarium tanks will be overhauled. The bright spot is that we'll have a reason to feature the museum again in the near future.
