Not many Southeast Missouri residents have pleasant
memories of the winter storm that left many parts of the
area without power for nearly three weeks a year ago.
Nearly two full days of freezing rain coated the Bootheel
with six inches of ice, bringing down limbs and trees and
snapping utility poles like toothpicks. When surrounded by
darkness, it is nearly impossible to see beyond the
devastation , but beauty is oftentimes a matter of
perspective.
